The Oaks Retirement Village

Our Village Living Offering

The Oaks is an attractive, friendly retirement community with magnificent gardens and a convenient location. The Oaks offers independent living in villas, and semi-independent living in studios and apartments.

Onsite there is a resthome and age-related hospital. We also offer residential care suites for residents who require resthome or hospital level care with a larger living space than a standard room.

Additional Services

Villa residents pay a weekly outgoing charge, which is fixed for their term in the unit. This fee includes garden and lawn care, rates, building insurance, repairs and maintenance.

Those living semi-independently in studios and apartments also pay the weekly outgoing charge, which is fixed for the term of their current license. On top of the weekly outgoing charge, they then choose either a housekeeping package or a nursing care package, depending on their needs. These two packages include things such as meals, weekly housekeeping, laundry service and access to the social programme. The nursing package also includes registered nurse supervision of medical care, medication administration, showering supervision and assistance with personal care.

Those living in care suites also purchase a License to Occupy. They do not pay a weekly outgoing charge. They receive either resthome or hospital level care, depending on their assessed needs. They may pay for their care privately or they may be subsidised. This depends on their financial situation.

Activities Programme

The Oaks has a very comprehensive activities programme, including exercise classes, shopping trips, Church services, bowls, housie, happy hour, outings to places of interest, movies in the main lounge, visiting speakers and entertainers. There is something to suit everyone.

What’s Near By

The Oaks is situated close to a number of good shopping centres, including the Bush Inn Centre, Westfield Riccarton, Avonhead Shopping Centre and the Hornby Hub. Over the road from the facility there is a library and a café and we are within walking distance of churches and parks.

Dwelling Features

Smoke alarms and emergency call buttons are in all units. The villas all have two bedrooms and the majority have internal access garages. They are insulated and double glazed with heat pumps. They also have full kitchens with ovens, hobs, range hood and dish drawers or dish washing machines.

The apartments, studios and care suites have kitchenettes, but do not have full kitchens as all meals are provided. They do have under bench fridge/freezers and microwave ovens. Some have flat screen wall-mounted TVs. All have access to an outside area.

Village Features

There is a bus stop right outside the facility and electric gates for residents’ security. The main lounge in the facility is the hub for a number of activities. The gardens feature flower beds, manicured lawns and mature trees. A magnificent oak tree in the grounds gives the facility its name. Garden seats are set throughout the complex and there are sheltered courtyards to sit in and enjoy the sun.

The Oaks Retirement Village

  • "I wish I had moved to the village much sooner than I did because the companionship is here when needed. The activity program has grown from strength to strength over the last two years. The location is excellent and the village has property to suit everyone's budget." - Bessie Salmons, Oceania Resident

  • "I really welcomed the newsletters and the meetings with the Registered Nurse to set Mum’s care plan in place." - Daughter of Oceania resident

  • "The friendly environment is very comforting. I value my own space, which I have at the village, but there is also always a resident to have a cuppa and a chat with when needed." - Elizabeth Head, Oceania Resident

  • "The advantage of having rest home and hospital care (on site) played a huge part in our buying." - Ley Quennell, Oceania resident

  • "I am surrounded by lovely gardens and friends and neighbours. It is a great comfort, you never need to feel alone and I know I only have to press a bell if I need help." - Mary Harris Oceania Resident

  • "On the first day several residents popped in with muffins or small bunches of flowers to make sure Mum felt welcome. It was not long before she knew someone who knew someone and indeed knew some of the residents directly. It was a big move for Mum and she has settled really well thanks to the team." - Son of Oceania resident

  • "To me, the security and peace of mind are very comforting. Also, my husband lives in the hospital so I can spend as much time as I want with him. The newly refurbished community centre is becoming the hub of the village." - Val Payne, Oceania Resident
