Animals never fail to bring smiles to the face of our residents, and interacting with furry friends has been proven to be a great way to lift mood and relieve stress. This is why it's important to us to make sure our residents get opportunities to spend time with animals of all shapes and sizes!
Most of our rest homes have live-in pets such as cats, birds and fish. Facility staff and residents' families often bring in dogs, or have 'Canine Friends' from the community come for a pat and a cuddle.
We really do see quite the variety, from moreporks to penguins, to alpacas in bow ties, we've had all sorts of exotic creatures through our doors! If they can't come to us, the residents are always keen for a trip in the van whether it's a journey to the farm, or off to the park to feed the birds.
