Our Village Living Offering

Situated in park-like grounds, our dwellings come with their own outdoor areas, providing a great sense of tranquility and space. Conveniently located only minutes ride away in the minibus, which stops at our front gate, Atawhai offers peace and quiet plus a connection to Taradale village.


Our 24-hour Registered Nurse is available for the village residents, as well as a weekly phone call from our staff, who are never far away.


At Atawhai, there’s a strong and active social committee, and a lively community centre.


Additional Services

Visits from hearing clinics, private gardeners, heat pump maintenance and yearly villa safety checks, are all available to our residents.


Activities Programme

An always fun and interesting activity programme is available for anyone who wants to take part. There’s happy hour every Friday night, weekly mystery tour outings, exercise classes and chat and craft afternoons.


As food is about sociability and enjoyment, we have a fortnightly soup and bun lunch and every three weeks, you can enjoy our drinks and nibbles evening.


Aside from shopping trips, our van is always on the road, taking residents on fun excursions like; the Christmas Lights bus trip, daffodils and craft day in the country and afternoon at the lavender farm.


Looking ahead we have a hat-making afternoon in time for the Melbourne cup.


What’s Near By

There are plenty of amenities close to Atawhai including golf courses, garden centres, cafes and a large community sports arena which hosts a variety of sporting and social functions. There’s also a heated swimming pool at the near-by school.


The beautiful art deco city of Napier is a short, bus ride away, as are Hastings, and Havelock North – and the ride is free.


Dwelling Features

All cottages and villas feature sunny gardens with north-facing aspects. There is a front entrance security door, telephone points in the dining room, bedroom and kitchen. Smoke alarms and heat pumps come standard in all dwellings. Select rooms have double-glazing, tinted glass windows and a private secure backyard. Most have garages or parking available nearby.


Village Features

For all residents to use at their discretion, Atawhai offers a great Community Centre, lounge and kitchen, chapel area, conference/training room, large gardens and lawn areas, parking areas throughout the village, a monthly village newsletter and a residents social committee. There is wheelchair access to most of the facilities.

    Jeanette has been with Oceania since 2004 and still enjoys developing new processes to improve the Village. Before Oceania she worked in the travel industry, and has spent time in overseas admin roles. Jeanette is a firm believer in an honest, professional approach, treating people with dignity and respect. She enjoys the challenge of no two days being the same, and the mix of interacting with the residents and doing independent work. Jeanette is a keen gardener and loves being outdoors. She also enjoys catching up with her friends, good music, plays and films.
