Oceania Healthcare’s Duart Rest Home and Hospital is a bit like taking a cruise. There’s the opportunity to mingle, to be entertained, join in or just relax and chill —something for everyone.
The popular Cuppa & Company group has recently made a comeback, offering residents and the wider community the
opportunity for “some good company, a bit of fun and a nice afternoon tea” says Duart’s diversional therapist Diane Green.
Each Tuesday between 2pm and 3pm. the group meets in the Rest Home section of the complex, a meeting point where they choose what they’d like to do that day.
“They don’t have to stay all day—some just come for a cuppa and chat. Others join in a game of Housie or stay to listen to some entertainment.”
Diane is encouraging those in the community who may be lonely or just like to make new friends to come along and get to know our residents.
“On a cold, winter’s day come to Duart. It’s cosy, warm and company for them. They will get to know the feel of the place
and become used to the staff and surroundings.”
Diane says this might also serve as a short break for carers. “It could work both ways.”
Duart’s retreat room is proving popular since Diane set it up awhile back, with a noticeboard, clock and artwork brightening the room and keeping residents’ minds active.
Planned activities advertised for residents and the community wanting to join in include cards, Rummikub, indoor bowls, high tea and a dollop of reminiscing.
A large room is set aside for meeting up, where residents are encouraged to join in, bring a friend or family member and meet up with residents from other facilities. “Why should they miss out?” Diane says.
