Gracelands Manager Phil Harman presents St John with money raised from their Restaurant Night event

Every second month Gracelands Rest Home and Village brings the outside world in, hosting a different themed restaurant night for residents and family. The evenings are the brainchild of diversional therapist Viv Harrison and activities coordinator Kerrie Evans, who this month chose to support the St John Ambulance Appeal.

"We decided to donate the proceeds from our fine dining experience to this worthy cause," Viv says. Viv realised many residents were no longer able to go out for a meal so decided to bring the restaurant experience to them. The evenings have proved very popular with residents and their families, who have enjoyed themed meals, including Asian, Indian and fine dining.

"Residents from both our hospital and rest home wings, along with their families and our village family, are able to enjoy a night of delicious food in a fun and friendly atmosphere." Ambulance officer Grant Gray spoke to diners about the importance of community donations and St John cadet Nikalaya Thompson waitressed.

"The whole evening was a huge success. The food was spectacular - five courses to tempt the taste buds and complimentary drinks, including cocktails. And $600 was raised for a worthy cause."
