What’s covered by the Daily Care Fee in a Rest Home?


When people move into a care facility there are often a few questions around what the standard fees cover and what things need to be paid for or arranged privately. The table below is a helpful guide, but for more details you may want to ask the facility manager. 


Service Covered by Daily Care Fee / Facility Privately Paid and/or Arranged
Room Yes, standard rooms are covered A Premium room or Care Suite will have additional fees
Meals Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper are all provided.  
Laundry Yes Dry cleaning and delicate washing
Bed linen and towels Yes You may like to bring a bedspread from home to personalise your room
Doctor or Nurse Practitioner visits Yes If you want to use your own doctor there may be extra fees 
Medication Yes, if prescribed by a doctor and funded by PHARMAC Some additional costs may apply in certain circumstances
Specialist appointments Some, depending on appointment  Some e.g. Dentistry, optometry, audiology etc.
Wound Care Yes  
Continence products Yes Some additional costs may apply
Transport Some, depending on occasion and level of care Private appointments and personal travel e.g. to visit a friend
Activities Facility activity programme Some special events or outings may have extra costs
Phone Facility line for local landline calls Cell phones, private phone line in room or toll calls
TV In communal area/s Private TV or SKY connection in room
Internet Facility Wi-Fi Personal internet connection in your room

Furniture We will provide a bed and other basic furniture if required  Some items can be brought from home provided they fit safely in the room
