Eldon Care

Our Care offering

Eldon is situated on the city fringe providing a peaceful semi-rural setting, with a golf club to our south, and hills and bush on the east and west boundaries. Tui and Wood Pigeons are a frequent sight. With gardens and courtyards our residents enjoy easy access to the outdoors.

Eldon is frequently described as welcoming and friendly.

As you enter via the main entrance you can usually hear and see residents interacting with each other and the happy faces and laughter of staff.

We offer residential care for up to 133 elderly people, as well as some younger clients with similar health issues.

Our commitment is to provide and promote the best possible care for the aged - by assisting our staff to gain excellent skills, while learning the value and satisfaction that comes from working in Aged Care.

All staff take part in the Oceania training programme, a programme recognised and awarded excellence by NZ Aged Care Association.

Eldon has a reputation for managing a wide variety of residents while always working towards meeting their needs as individuals.

Activities Programme

Providing meaningful and varied activities in a large facility with so many hospital residents, takes creative thinking, organisation and planning, along with flexibility, as some days things are just not going to go the way you planned. Eldon has a well-trained team of five recreation staff lead by Holly Chapman a qualified Diversional Therapist.

The team work hard to offer varied and fun activities adapting these to meet the individual’s needs and capabilities. Some of these activities include happy hour, art and crafts, baking, quizzes and crosswords, scenic drives, café outings, indoor golf, "It’s In The Bag", pet therapy, church services, music therapy as well as external entertainers and of course, exercise sessions and sit dancing. We also have special events such as the annual mini Olympics, high tea on the Queen’s birthday, farm animal zoo visits and of course celebrate all those special days throughout the year including St Patrick’s day, Melbourne Cup day, Halloween, Mother’s day, Christmas and Easter. Each year we fund raise for a local or national organisation with a link to health. Eldon compete in the annual Kapiti inter-rest home bowls – Eldon has won for the past three years.

Eldon also has a Sensory Suite which uses a combination of soothing lights, sounds and tactile objects to stimulate the senses and help residents relax.

What’s Near By

Eldon, while being situated in a semi-rural, is only 1.7kms from the heart of Paraparaumu. Paraparaumu itself is less than an hour north of Wellington by car or a train (trains run every half hour). Paraparaumu and surrounding areas on the Kapiti Coast enjoy a noticeably warmer climate with great gardens and miles and miles of easily accessible beach over-looking Kapiti Island, steeped in history and now a bird sanctuary. The Kapiti Coast has wonderful private and public gardens, and every year there is a garden trail showcasing some of the amazing private gardens. There is a thriving arts community with a number of well-known artists whose studios are open to the public during business hours. Cafes and restaurants dot the coastline and the shallow and calm sea allows for safe swimming. There are a number of golf courses including the Links course and now you can fly directly to and from Paraparaumu from Auckland and Christchurch with plans to include the Hawkes Bay in the future.
